A Note From Erin

Though my belief rivaled your thoughts
I did not abandon the concern you raised
it would have been much easier
to scoff at your words then
pretend the explanations you gave
held no truth

I was too preoccupied by failure
to have been offended with criticism
I neither welcomed nor expected
long before you
my pride had seen
all forms of setbacks and
now rejection doesn’t hurt as much

When

I am like water
that cowers before the rocks
I need hands like moths
feet like winds to flee
the drubbing of the ocean

the moon hears my grumbles
knowing I want what the sun has to offer
the chance to sip the bud of flowers
and bathe in soft rivers

when will I follow the path of birds
scale burning coals that perch like fences
when will I learn my lessons
and not fold my hands too soon

I having been writing poetry for close to three years. I am a native of Florida and have recently appeared in various publications which includes Voices Magazine, Poems Niederngasse, Skyline Publications, Seeker Magazine, Njozi Magazine, Top Write Corner, Some Words, Ya’ Sou Magazine, Thought Fragments, and Street Corner.
