Lost Love

At that very moment that you told me that I had lost you,
I lost my mind, body and soul.
For almost two years now, you are all that I have known,
all that I cared to know.
I felt that I lost so many things with the parting of you.
I lost an unconditional love, a friend, a confidante, a lover, my world.
My mind raced to find a way to make you stay, and then I realized that it did
not matter what I did from here on out but the crucial point, when I should
have remembered just how much a part of me you were and that if I lost you, I
would lose part of my self, my very being--was the moment before I made that
terrible mistake.
I know I say that love should endure all, but I find myself thinking that if
you would have done this to me, I would not even question my departure from
you because I would doubt your love for me so very much if you took the
actions that I chose to take last night.
Still, I cannot bear the thought of life without you.
When you look at me, I see such hurt in your eyes and to see that hurt in
your eyes makes my heart feel like someone has just lunged a dull knife into
it. Much, I'm sure like what you are feeling.
I know that my acts can never be forgotten but, please, give me another
chance to prove to you my undying love and that I never meant to hurt you in
any way shape or form.
Give me one more chance to be whole and complete for the rest of my life.
Because without you I would merely be half of a person, half of a heart, half
of a soul.
You see regardless of what I do or say---be it right or wrong, I will always
need you.
