IN WINTER’S CAMP
White powder falling . . .
Mantling pine, spruce, wild roses, now asleep
Fluffy mounds, drift over landscaped frozen streams
As pika and hare, burrow through meadow’s lofty snow
White tail deer, elk, graze in aspen sheltered peace;
Suddenly, a Steller’s jay fluttered close
Squawked boisterously, into silence’s passing time
Camped alone, high in the frozen mountain wilderness
Wandering, in the musing depths - of my mind;
When awakening icy winds, began to dance in snow bowls
Howled about, invoking - a bewitching, mystical song
Cuddling closer to my crackling campfire side -
Kindled wishful thoughts, of a very loving woman
To warm, my every - winter long . . .
