A Promise

Should your nights be ever lonely
Or you simply need a friend
Feeling the world's against you
Then just softly call my name
If no one ever wants to listen
As if your voice is never heard
Tell me of all your troubles
And I will listen to every word
Yet if there is only darkness
In the cold grey skies above
Hold out your arms toward me
I will send warmth, light and love
So never think you are alone
Or in 'Life's play' you have no part
For there is a place you will always be
Forever deep within my heart

English Churchyard

Winter breeze ruffles fragile grass
Caresses headstones with its chill
As cherry blossoms venture forth
Where winds of time stand still
Movement from the creaking gates
An old man wends his weary way
Clutching tributes with woolen hands
To mark the passing of another day
Tenderly arranging delicate blooms
Removing wrappers with loving care
Reading words carved on grey stone
As lips move softly in silent prayer
Turning slowly as he walks away
Leaves behind a portrait so serene
Empty churchyard filled with memories
Departed souls resting in eternal dreams

Heart's Desire

Quiet sounds carried by the breeze
Rustling leaves in country lanes
As though all surrounding life
Is softly whispering your name
The shining warmth of summer sun
Like bands of gold from above
So reminiscent of your smile
Creating strong desires for your love
Wondrous flowers born of nature
Bright colours with sweet perfume
Remaining only briefly in the mind
Unlike our passion that has bloomed
For the flowers have fragile beauty
That withers and dies in the frost
Whereas yours will live forever
Burned into my soul, never to be lost
