It should be shouted from a mountaintop
or said softly in a church
It should not be uttered in a parking lot
or a crowded bar room floor
It should be sung under the canopy of the forest green,
a desert, an August moon, a bedroom
Or with twilight's last gleaming
   and the stars first shining
   caught in the wonderland
   of a new beginning
Or as snowflakes spiral to earth on a windless day
not knowing when they touched you-
only to discover that you have received
   a benediction from heaven
But yes, loud enough enough to hear the words
   I love you Anita.
