We would love to add your horse to our growing collection of horse photos. We are developing the latest group of cards into "trading cards". Sort of like baseball cards, where all the stats of the player are given. Kids (and grownups!) love horses, and love to know everything about them.
Problem is that we need quality photos or scans. I understand that some of you are not computer experts, but you may know of someone who is and can help you. We do need scans that are high dpi (dots per inch) the average is 75dpi (when you scan a photo) but 150-350 would be superb. It does mean that the scan will be large, but I would do prefer the scan to be large! Minimum size is 600x480. This is all because I have to save your photo a few times a few times through the process of making it into a postcard (saving the mail and then saving it with copyright info embedded into it), and the quality drops! So higher quality is best and I don't mind the large files!
The best example I have come up with in explaining dots per inch (dpi), is comparing it to cross-stitching. If you compare 32 count fabric to 14 count fabric, you will get a better image with the 32 count, it looks more like a photo with lots of color and shadows. This renders an image that has depth, realistic and 3d. You have more detail in 32 count compared to blocky stitches in 14count. This is how a scan works. The higher you go, the better the scan. But for my purposes, 350 dpi is the maximum you need to do. If you intend to print the photos out, go for 2000+ dpi!!
But of course we cannot accept every photo, and I'm sure you would agree that composition is important. We prefer full body shots that fill the photo from top to bottom and side to side, or head shots. But shots of horses that are far away or obstructed by an object (like a crowd of people?) will not be enjoyable to those who will receive the card. So please be choosy before you send!
